Web hosting Vultr
Vultr is a cloud platform with data centers in 32 cities across 20 countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Its main product is Cloud Compute, with hourly billing: you can spin up a server for a few hours to test it, then delete it and pay only for the time it was running. In addition to standard VPSs, Vultr offers servers with dedicated cores (VX1 and Optimized Cloud Compute), cloud GPUs, bare metal, block and object storage, load balancers, and managed Kubernetes.
Cloud Compute Product Lines
Vultr VPSs come in three product lines, differentiated by processor generation and disk type. Prices are listed per month, but billed hourly.
- Regular Performance — the most affordable plans, with previous-generation Intel processors and standard SSDs. The entry-level plan with 1 core, 1 GB of RAM, and 25 GB of disk space costs $5 per month ($0.007 per hour). 1 core and 2 GB costs $10; 2 cores and 4 GB with 80 GB of disk space costs $20; 4 cores and 8 GB with 160 GB costs $40.
- High Performance — newer AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon processors (you choose; prices are the same) and NVMe drives. 1 core and 1 GB costs $6 per month; 1 core and 2 GB costs $12; 2 cores and 4 GB with 100 GB of NVMe storage costs $24; 4 cores and 8 GB with 180 GB costs $48. These plans include more traffic than Regular: from 2 to 6 TB per month.
- High Frequency — Intel Xeon processors clocked at 3 GHz or higher, with NVMe storage. This line is suited to workloads where single-core speed matters. 1 core and 1 GB with 32 GB of NVMe storage costs $6 per month; 1 core and 2 GB costs $12; 2 cores and 4 GB with 128 GB costs $24; 3 cores and 8 GB with 256 GB costs $48.
Traffic is included in the plan, ranging from 1 TB on entry-level plans to 6 TB on the highest-tier plans. Usage above the limit is charged at $0.01 per GB. Vultr notes that prices may differ from the base rates at some data centers; the exact price for a selected location is shown in the control panel before you place an order.
Data Centers
Servers can be deployed in 32 cities:
- Americas: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Seattle, Silicon Valley (United States), Toronto (Canada), Mexico City (Mexico), Santiago (Chile), São Paulo (Brazil).
- Europe, the Middle East, and Africa: Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Manchester, Madrid, Paris, Stockholm, Warsaw, Milan, Tel Aviv, Johannesburg.
- Asia and Australia: Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Osaka, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney.
This range of locations is rare even among major cloud providers: you can place a server close to your audience almost anywhere in the world, including South America, Africa, and India.
Operating Systems
Available prebuilt images include Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS, Fedora, Fedora CoreOS, openSUSE, Arch Linux, Alpine Linux, Flatcar Container Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, as well as Windows Standard and Windows Core Standard. The Windows license is not included in the plan price and is charged separately. If the OS you need is not listed, you can upload your own ISO image.
There’s also an application marketplace with one-click installs for Docker, WordPress, WooCommerce, OpenLiteSpeed, CloudPanel, WireGuard, Node.js, Laravel, K3s, and more.
What Costs Extra
- Automatic backups — an additional 20% of the server price.
- Snapshots — $0.05 per GB per month.
- DDoS protection — $10 per month per server, with up to 10 Gbps of traffic scrubbing.
- Windows license — depends on the plan.
Payment and New Customer Bonus
You can top up your account by bank card, PayPal, Alipay, bank transfer, or cryptocurrency. New customers who sign up through a referral link get $300 to test the platform — no promo code is required.
Who It’s For
Vultr is a good fit for developers and companies that need a server in a specific country, hourly billing, and the ability to scale from an affordable VPS to dedicated cores, GPUs, or bare metal without switching providers. Regular Performance is enough for small projects; High Performance is better for high-traffic websites and databases, while High Frequency is suited to applications sensitive to single-core speed.
